KPE Engineers ▪ Architects ▪ Forensic Experts has named Trevor Huffaker, Brad Lauritsen, Chad Liechti, Patrick Straatmann and Sam Ucman as Associate Principals in the firm. This team of experienced facility design and forensic professionals provide day-to-day leadership to execute the firm’s strategic initiatives. Associate Principals are empowered to make decisions concerning proposals, projects and personnel and professionally seal their architectural or engineering work. Each of these Associate Principals lead one of the firm’s five primary design disciplines and serve as an expert witness.

Trevor Huffaker, Registered Architect, ALA – holds a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 2002 and is NCARB certified to practice architecture. Huffaker is currently licensed to practice architecture in multiple states and heads up the firm’s Architectural Department which includes 4 licensed architects and support staff. Huffaker manages the firm’s Des Moines, Iowa office and has over 15 years of experience. Huffaker is considered an expert in Built Environment Science. Trevor’s passion is the great outdoors; where he enjoys hunting, fishing and camping with family.

Brad Lauritsen, P.E., LEED AP BD +C – holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Lauritsen is licensed to practice mechanical engineering in multiple states and heads up the firm’s Forensic Engineering Department with 11 licensed engineers/architects for assignments. Lauritsen also practices Mechanical Engineering design for both new and modernized facilities. Lauritsen has 16 years of experience and is an expert in moisture migration in buildings and is a Certified Thermographer. Brad has been playing drums since he was 10 and has played in a few bands throughout the years.

Chad Liechti, P.E., LEED AP – holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architectural Engineering with focus on Mechanical Engineering. Liechti is licensed to practice Architectural Engineering in multiple states and heads up the firm’s Mechanical Engineering Department which includes 5 licensed mechanical engineers and support staff. Liechti is considered an expert in plumbing system design and has 12 years of experience designing HVAC systems on projects for Omaha, Des Moines and Davenport public schools, the State of Nebraska, railroad companies and private sector clients. Liechti also serves as the firm’s Production Manager and is a Senior Engineer. Chad enjoys woodworking as a hobby.

Patrick Straatmann, P.E. – earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 2003. Straatmann is licensed to practice Electrical Engineering in 12 states. Straatmann heads up the firm’s Electrical Engineering Department which includes 2 licensed electrical engineers, a licensed electrician and support staff.   Straatmann is an industry leader in electrical distribution and transmission design for facilities and railroad yards for major railroad companies. Straatmann handles both property and personal injury forensic assignments with respect to electrical systems. Straatmann also serves as the firm’s Assistant General Manager. Patrick’s hobby is dabbling in residential construction projects.

Sam Ucman, P.E., S.E. – holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architectural Engineering with focus in Structural Engineering. Ucman is licensed to practice Structural Engineering in 9 states. Ucman has 11 years of experience and heads up the firm’s Structural Engineering Department which includes 3 licensed structural engineers. Ucman is the primary Structural Engineer for forensic engineering assignments and expert witnessing.   When Sam was 14, he played in the AAU World Series at Disney’s Wide World of Sports with his baseball team.
