ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - OMAHA, NE
KPE is looking for an Electrical Engineer with thorough knowledge of facility electrical design and engineering techniques to lead/work closely on assigned projects, including planning, preliminary design, front-end engineering, preparation of drawings and documents, project management, contract administration, construction support, liaison with local authorities, and as-built documentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in evaluating, selecting, applying, and adapting engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of electrical principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
- Prepare or modify drawings, specifications, and calculations and monitor work for compliance with applicable codes, accepted engineering practices, and standards.
- Responsible for quality and delivery of construction documentation.
- Electrical design with primary responsibilities of power, lighting, and controls per client requirements.
- Provide studies of power quality, capacity, short circuit, and coordination.
- Detail portions of projects using schematic or conceptual layouts.
- Interface with clients, utility companies, construction administrators, project teams, and vendors.
- Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects.
- May serve as designated client contact on projects.
- Be part of a team to deliver quality construction documentation — specifications, schematics, power and lighting plans, one-lines, etc.
- Perform field activities such as observing and recording existing field conditions and taking and verifying measurements within the project area.
- Develop construction opinions of probable cost.
- Research design options and document findings to the project lead engineer.
- Perform and document technical design reviews with other disciplines on the project team to produce the highest level of quality.
- Capable and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Time manage and prioritize tasks to achieve results within cost and schedule constraints.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code and National Electrical Safety Code.
- Experience working with Class 1 railroad construction projects is preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, plans, and specifications.
- Strong math skills.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- Applicants must pass a pre-employment physical and substance abuse test.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout the United States.
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 or more years of related experience
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:
- A Professional Engineer license or ability to become licensed is preferred.

COMPENSATION:
- $75,000 – $125,000, based on experience
